Essen Health Care is currently seeking a Director of Data Analytics develops, maintains, and collects structured and unstructured data sets for analysis and reporting. Creates reports, projections, models, and presentations to support business strategy and tactics. Decisions are typically related to interdepartmental coordination, development and implementation of strategic plans, and business outcomes, and develops and implements strategic plans for the scope of management that are aligned with the business strategy. This position will work directly with the Executive team, Operations and Finance to support the development of various models, executive and operational dashboards and look for strategic opportunities, using analytics, to improve business performance.

Under the general direction of the VP of IT, the Director of Analytics sets the strategy, vision and direction for analytics team which is responsible for developing and implementing data-driven solutions to meet executive, operational and other business unit needs. The incumbent is responsible for formulating insights, articulating actionable recommendations and driving critical business decisions that optimize the medical practice.

The Director of Data Analytics will support the account & clinical management teams and new business RFPs as the business requires including but not limited to:

  • Responsible for all aspects of data analytics strategy
  • Partners with clinical and other functional leaders to drive cost down, increase quality and encounters by identifying opportunities, designing action plans, developing/tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) and ensuring overall practice satisfaction
  • Extracts clinical, operational and financial data from multiple sources and creates integrated analytical data sets
  • Lead and mentor a team of analysts to “connect the data dots”, articulate insights and create proactive plans for the overall practice
  • Develops and maintains subject matter expertise regarding healthcare industry trends
  • Assures the ongoing high-performance level of the overall department through continued knowledge acquisition and knowledge sharing within the co-workers
  • Responsible for creating utilization benchmarks and new KPIs based on continuous data exploration activities
  • Create customized and ad hoc reporting for senior management, operations and other business units
  • Support and closely collaborate with internal teams
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will have the following Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree Preferred
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in healthcare industry
  • 10+ years of technical experience
  • 8+ years of management/leadership experience
  • Expert skill level in the use of Power BI, Excel, SharePoint and SQL databases for data analysis with scripting via Python
  • Working knowledge of ECW
  • Possess Expert in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Power BI and Word
  • Functional knowledge of SQL and Python strongly preferred
  • Possess a solid understanding of how organization capabilities interrelate across departments
  • Experience in developing, maintaining, & collecting structured & unstructured data sets for analysis & reporting
  • Experience in creating reports, projections, models, & presentations to support business strategy & tactics
  • Experience in identifying & resolving complex technical & operational problems within departments
  • Project Management Experience
  • Proven experience working with claims data and performing financial analysis, including ability to summarize key messages and results to senior leadership
  • Strong ability to analyze unstructured data, succinctly summarize and articulate meaningful conclusions
  • Proven ability to present affirmatively based on data analysis
  • Strong ability to translate data into stories through the effective use of PowerPoint
  • Experience with clinical terminology, clinical guidelines, clinical outcomes and healthcare utilization measures preferred
  • Familiarity with medication and billing codes such as ICD-9, ICD-10, NDC, GCN, GPI, AWP, MAC, etc
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills and ability to apply the appropriate tools and level of analysis to specific situations.
  • Strong strategic planning and analysis skills in hospice education and business
  • Exceptional project management skills, including the ability to effectively manage multiple projects of various diverse scope in a cross-functional environment
  • Experience mentoring high functioning direct reports
  • Experience with data visualization systems (i.e. Qlik Sense, Tableau, etc)
  • Experience interacting directly with client facing teams (i.e. account management, sales, implementation)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to develop and maintain business relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across an organization in designing and implementing solutions that yield incremental value-added solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to succeed in a dynamic environment and produce deliverables in tight timeframes
  • High-energy with sense of urgency, accuracy and attention to detail
  • Experience with analytical tools and data warehousing preferred
